Randall C. “Randy” Horn
President and Chief Executive Officer
Colonial Life

Randy Horn is President and Chief Executive Officer of Colonial Life. He joined the company in March 2004 after a 27-year career with Mutual of Omaha.

Horn served as Executive Vice President of Individual Financial Services at Mutual of Omaha and President of Companion Life Insurance Company (a New York subsidiary) from 1999 to 2003. He previously served as Executive Vice President of Group Benefit Services and has held leadership positions in risk management, claims and actuarial departments. Horn also has experience as an employee benefits consultant with Towers Perrin and as an actuarial assistant with Occidental Life.

Horn is a board member of the Palmetto Health Foundation, the Palmetto Business Forum and the Midlands Business Leadership Group. He also serves on the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities board of trustees. He has been active in many professional and community organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation, Salvation Army, Children’s Hospital, Children’s Museum and the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.

Horn holds a bachelor of science degree in actuarial science from Drake University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and holds a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation.

He and his wife, Karen, are the parents of six grown children and live in northeast Columbia, S.C.

Tim Arnold
Senior Vice President Chief Operations Officer
Colonial Life

Tim Arnold is Senior Vice President, Chief Operations Officer at Colonial Life. In this role he oversees the company’s main operations, risk and customer service areas, including Claims, Underwriting, Policyholder Services, Account Services and Customer Acquisition Services.

Arnold joined Colonial Life from affiliate company Unum US in July 2011, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President of Integrated Underwriting. During his 25-year career with Unum, he has held positions in Underwriting, Corporate Planning, Client Services, National Accounts Sales, and Benefits and has served in leadership roles in the Chattanooga, Tenn.; Worcester, Mass.; and Portland, Maine offices.

Arnold is a past chair of the Unum United Way Campaign in Portland and served on the Unum United Way Campaign board in Chattanooga. He also served on the boards of The First Tee of Chattanooga, First Things First, the Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services Inc. and Girls Incorporated.

Arnold earned a bachelor’s degree in management and a master’s in business administration degree in finance from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He holds the professional designations of Associate, Life and Health Claims (ALHC) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI).

Jeff Brown
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer
Colonial Life

Jeff Brown is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Colonial Life. He oversees all of the company’s marketing activities, including new product development and management, marketing programs, brand messaging, communications, broker marketing and Internet marketing.

Brown joined Colonial Life in June 2010 after working for Deloitte Consulting in New York as a management consultant. While at Deloitte, he focused on helping life and health insurance companies with growth strategies and also provided diligence and integration support for mergers and acquisitions.

Brown’s early professional experience included officer level consulting and practice leader positions at national employee benefits brokerage and consulting firms. He supported small and large employers’ total rewards strategies with a focus on health and welfare plans, for which he provided design, procurement and labor relations advice. He also testified as an expert witness on employee benefit matters. Brown started his career with Aetna in life, disability and managed care sales and account management.

Brown is on the board of directors of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and is particularly active in community education and mentoring programs. He has served on the boards of regional mentoring programs for at-risk teens as well as Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He also serves as an advisory board member of the Voluntary Benefits Association, a national nonprofit trade association focused on voluntary benefits for employer and affinity groups. Brown has published articles on benefits issues in trade publications and spoken at industry conferences.

Brown holds a master of business administration degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and a bachelor of science in marketing from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Tom Gilligan
Senior Vice President National Sales
Colonial Life

Tom Gilligan is senior vice president of national sales for Colonial Life. He leads the company’s nationwide sales organization, which includes more than 7,000 career agents and managers.

Gilligan has a broad background in Colonial Life’s sales organization and in the employee benefits industry. He joined Colonial Life in 1998 as a general agent in Denver and served as regional sales manager of the West Region. He has spent the last five years as senior vice president of marketing and branding.

His previous experience includes four years with a large Denver brokerage firm that specialized in employee benefits and property and casualty coverages, and 14 years with the former Unum Corporation’s sales, recruiting and training, underwriting and customer service areas.

Gilligan is a board member of Special Olympics South Carolina and has previously served as board chairman of the organization.

David Parker
Senior Vice President Finance and Risk Management
Colonial Life

David Parker is Senior Vice President of Finance and Risk Management for Colonial Life. He oversees the company’s finance, actuarial, sales compensation and reporting, sales planning and analysis, compensation design and business information and analysis areas.

Parker joined Colonial Life in 1991 as a financial analyst and has held a number of positions with responsibilities for corporate financial planning and internal financial/business consulting. He previously served as Vice President of Sales Information and Compensation Design and has been instrumental in making Colonial Life’s sales compensation program one of the best in the industry.

Before joining Colonial Life, Parker worked in manufacturing management and quality improvement with Milliken & Co. He holds a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Presbyterian College and an MBA degree in finance from the University of South Carolina.

Linda Bambacus
Vice President Global Enrollment Business Owner
Colonial Life

Linda Bambacus is Vice President, Global Enrollment Business Owner for Colonial Life. In this role, she is responsible for ensuring the Unum enterprise continues to have strong and competitive enrollment systems and capabilities across its Colonial Life, Unum US and Unum UK business affiliates.

Bambacus joined Colonial Life in June 2011 from the Robert E. Nolan Company Inc., where she spent seven years helping Unum and other clients achieve sustainable long-term growth. During that time, she contributed to the development of technology platforms, market strategies and new product launches for Colonial Life, Unum US and Unum UK. She previously served for nearly 20 years in management and executive roles with major medical carriers in Virginia.

Bambacus holds a bachelor’s degree in history and English from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Va., and attended the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond.

John Garrison
Vice President Compliance and Managing Counsel
Colonial Life

John Garrison is Vice President, Compliance and Managing Counsel for Colonial Life. In this role he oversees the company’s legal and compliance operations.

Garrison joined Colonial Life in 1992 as Legislative Affairs Manager. In 1998 he was named Assistant Vice President and Counsel, and since 2008 has served as Vice President, Compliance. His previous experience includes several years serving the S.C. State Senate as director of research and attorney to the Banking and Insurance Committee and as staff counsel in the Office of Senate Research. He also worked in private practice with Saleeby & Cox in Hartsville, S.C, and served as a circuit court law clerk.

Garrison holds a bachelor of science degree from Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C., and a juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia, S.C. He is admitted to practice law in South Carolina and before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals Fourth Circuit and U.S. District Court for South Carolina. He has participated in the Unum CEO Scholar program and the Management Development Program at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

Garrison serves as a trustee for the Business & Industry Political Education Committee and on the board of directors of the American Red Cross-Columbia Region and the Central South Carolina Alliance. He also is a former deacon and diaconate chair at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington, S.C.

Ann Houser
Vice President Human Resources
Colonial Life

Ann Houser is Vice President, Human Resources for Colonial Life. She joined Colonial Life from affiliate company Unum US in July 2011, where she most recently served as Vice President of Human Resources. In her 29-year career with Unum, she has held various human resources positions, including business support roles for multiple functions within the company, head of HR for Unum America, and head of Training & Development and HR Business Support. Houser holds a degree in sociology from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame.

Houser has been actively engaged in many community organizations at her former location in Maine. She served on the board of directors of the Preble Street Resource Center, which provides services to people experiencing problems with homelessness, hunger and poverty. She also previously served on the board of the Little Brothers Association and the local Girl Scouts council. She has been an active volunteer for the United Way, the Unitarian church, Mitchell Institute, Youth Alternatives, youth soccer, and local schools.
