COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 31, 2014) – Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company has been named a top benefits carrier by brokers across the country in the 2014 Benefits Selling magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards program. The national publication is targeted to brokers and agents who sell group and voluntary insurance products and features the results of its annual awards program each fall.

Benefits Selling asked brokers to name their top carrier in eight categories important to brokers today. Colonial Life was named the winner in two categories key to its business:

  • Best prepared for defined contribution future
  • Best prepared for health care reform

Colonial Life also tied as runner-up in a third category, for best enrollment company. It was the only company to win more than one top award in this year’s balloting. In the past nine years, Colonial Life has earned 36 top honors in categories recognizing service, innovation and insurance products.

“Many brokers are finding voluntary benefits can be an important extension of their business, and Colonial Life continues to be their preferred partner,” said Bob Ruff, vice president of broker market services at Colonial Life. “This continued vote of confidence demonstrates the value of the solutions and service Colonial Life offers to brokers.”

The magazine’s editors said Colonial Life won the best-prepared for health care reform contest by a 2-to-1 margin. “Colonial Life is in a strong position as we head into deeper PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) waters,” the magazine reported.

The magazine’s editors said Colonial Life also received twice as many votes as its nearest competitor in the defined contribution future category. “Colonial Life emerges as a carrier committed to not just consumer-driven health care, but an entirely new (although some might say old) way of funding health care,” the magazine reported.
