Funding Priorities

Colonial Life invests in the communities where our employees work and live. The majority of our philanthropic giving is designated to nonprofit organizations meeting the needs in the Midlands of South Carolina. Priority consideration is given to nonprofits with specific and measurable impacts within our focus areas of Health and Human Services, Education, Arts and Culture and Economic Development.

A person's quality of life is measured by many things. Colonial Life focuses on the following:

Health and Human Services

  • Ensuring a person has the ability to achieve optimum physical and mental health through access to quality healthcare, mental health treatment, domestic violence and abuse treatment programs and services and shaping and influencing public policy.
  • Enabling a person to meet one's own basic needs of food, shelter, safety, and transportation.

Education

  • Ensuring a person in enabled to achieve self-sufficiency throughout life.
  • Fostering educational opportunities through investments within various areas: pre-K – 12, higher education, youth development and leadership, quality childcare and after-school programs and adult literacy and financial education.

Arts and Culture

  • Ensuring the availability of arts and culture opportunities across all demographic segments of the community.
  • Enabling audience and participant experiences at all levels – local, regional, national and international.
  • Fostering artistic and audience development through arts education and outreach programs designed specifically for pre-K-12 students.

Economic Development

  • Investing in the local human capital infrastructure and the ability of businesses to recruit, retain and develop people.
  • Supporting policy reform and advocacy and community initiatives to foster a positive business climate.
