Discount Program from Colonial Life Helps Employees Save on Medical Costs

COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 16, 2012) — Workers can save money on a wide variety of everyday health and wellness products and services, thanks to the new WellCard discount program distributed by Colonial Life. WellCard provides discounts to employees for products and services including:

  • Pharmacies
  • Vision care and laser eye surgery
  • Hearing aids and evaluations
  • Dental exams and services
  • Medical imaging
  • Lab tests
  • Diabetes care and supplies
  • Vitamins
  • Medical network
  • Surgical centers
  • Doctor telephone consultation
  • Assistive devices

Participating vendors are name-brand providers across the country and include well-known retailers such as CVS, Rite-Aid, Sears, JC Penney, Target, LensCrafters, WalMart, Pearle Vision and many supermarket chains.

“Even the best insurance program doesn’t cover every health and wellness product or service a person might want or need to improve their health,” says Amy Criswell, Colonial Life’s director of marketing programs. “The WellCard program isn’t insurance, but it can help workers and their families get more affordable access to services and products their insurance doesn’t cover.”

There is no access fee for using the WellCard program (except for doctor phone consultations), and it’s available at no charge to employees whose employers offer Colonial Life voluntary benefits. Employees aren’t required to purchase Colonial Life insurance to be eligible for a free WellCard. Instead, employers can distribute the cards during their annual benefits enrollment meetings.

“It’s crucial for employees to understand their full benefits program so they can take best advantage of it and make the right choices for themselves and their families,” Criswell says. “A group, or better yet, individual benefits enrollment session is an ideal way for employees to discover their needs and learn what benefits are available to meet them. The WellCard program offers a way for employers to emphasize the importance of taking time for this step in the enrollment process.”
