| COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 12,
2003) — Dan Hughey has been named head of sales for Colonial
Supplemental Insurance. He will lead Colonial’s nationwide sales
organization of 6,300 independent contractors and also continue to
serve as regional managing general agent for the company’s Southeast
Region based in Columbia, S.C. Hughey joined Colonial in 1976 and
served in several positions in underwriting, account management,
major accounts, flexible benefits services and sales recruiting. In
1986 he was named vice president of Group Marketing Development, and
in 1990 moved to the position of vice president/regional coordinator
with responsibility for a third of the sales regions across the
country as well as the home office sales recruiting department.
From 1994 to 1997 Hughey managed the Southeastern U.S. sales
territory as vice president of sales. He then served in vice
president of sales positions for the Public Sector Channel and for
the Central U.S. sales territory. In 2002 he was named regional
managing general agent for the Southeast sales region. Hughey holds
a bachelor’s degree in history in from the University of South
Carolina.
